MEP Richard “I-know-the-text” Corbett has displayed quite measurable detest of those-who-complain-against the Lisbon Treaty (REC - Renamed EU Constitution). If this is the level of respect these people show to the worried Europeans and towards their growing distrust for the political elites than it will be precisely these kind of “democrats” that will do most harm to their “Precious” - EU’s starry ring of power.
In his blog entry on the day of the ratification in the EP Mr. Corbett charges into straightforward attack:
“Bizarely, some opponents of the treaty argued that it was being adopted without them having access to the consolidated treaties (i.e. the treaties as they will be after being amended by the Lisbon Treaty) and the poor souls find it too hard work to cross reference the amendments. But in any case, consolidated treaties have been published by several member states. Frankly, any Member of the European Parliament who says he or she has not been able to study the texts is not doing the job which they are paid to do. It is pure laziness.”
And this is far from being the only acid paragraph:
“There were also some strange calls for the European Parliament to demand referendums in each member state to ratify the treaty. I find it quite amusing that those who oppose the European Union now want the European Parliament to tell sovereign member states what their internal procedures should be to ratify an international treaty. That is hypocrisy in the extreme!”
There’s more of this style but we’ll leave it for others to read and judge for themselves.
Strange enough this same person publishes Annotated Treaties in April followed by this intro:
“Take a look at the annotated treaties
Thanks to Peader ó Broin at the Institute of International and European Affairs, an annoted version of the treaties is now available on my website. The text is colour coded so you can see items that have been deleted, added, altered and, importantly, the differences between the Lisbon Treaty and the abandoned Constitution.”
Imagine - this is the same person who’s Report on the REC was on vote in the European Parliament on 20th of February.
If that is not extreme mix of arrogance and hypocrisy than this display of two-faced politician can only be understood after years of advanced courses in psychology.
